Streetsboro is Your Gateway to Progress
The official city motto of the City of Streetsboro is “The Gateway to Progress.” Previous city leaders adopted this to our seal to remind future generations of the need to continually innovate and as recognition that Streetsboro sits at the crossroads of the major cities of Northeastern Ohio.
Gateway was originally chosen in reference to our location along Interstate 80, also known as the Ohio Turnpike. Today, the Turnpike allows our residents to easy commute to the Cities of Cleveland, Akron, Canton, or Youngstown easily and affords the same opportunity for our businesses to import labor for their workforce needs. In fact, Streetsboro has Ohio’s 9th highest concentration of civilian workers in a 30-mile radius (1,242,915 people) and the 7th highest concentration of manufacturing workers (175,021). The city is a net draw for labor all over Northeast Ohio. Streetsboro’s exit of the turnpike, 187, is the 3rd busiest in the state for intra-state traffic. Streetsboro also serves as the Gateway to some of Ohio’s key educational assets. Kent State University, Ohio’s third largest public university system and one of less than 150 R-1 designated research institution, is just 8 miles to the South and Northeast Ohio Medical University is 15 miles to the East.
Progress is something the City of Streetsboro team strives for daily. We have secured over $40 million in grant dollars to upgrade our infrastructure since 2019. Three of Northeast Ohio’s largest industrial parks are to be found within the City of Streetsboro housing major employers in plastics, logistics, metal fabrication and industrial machinery manufacturing. More than 2,350 acres within the City of Streetsboro are zoned for industrial uses and there are still large sites available for development. Thanks to an innovative partnership with the neighboring township of Shalersville, the City of Streetsboro also serves as the economic development lead for the 475 acre Turnpike Commerce Center with direct access to I-80. Recently, the city welcomed one of the county’s largest investments in history with the announcement of over $1 billion in capital expenditure for the new Viega plumbing fixture production, logistic and customer care center.
