Streetsboro Fire Department Community Programs

Commercial Knox Box Program

All commercial occupancies within the City of Streetsboro that have an automatic fire alarm system or automatic fire sprinkler system are required to purchase and install one or more commercial Knox Boxes on the building. Prior to ordering, the number and type of Knox Boxes required must be confirmed with the Fire Prevention and Investigations Bureau. Prior to installation confirm location and installation height with the bureau as well. For more information, contact the Fire Prevention and Investigations Bureau weekdays at 330-626-4664.

Residential Lock Box Program

What is a residential lock box program?

For a small fee, residents can purchase a small, over the door “LOK BOX®” for their home that is only accessible by the Police or Fire Department during an emergency.  We've partnered with Roper Lock Box in Hudson, Ohio to keep costs minimal for this program that is geared towards residents with medical needs or physical limitations that could prevent them from unlocking their front door during an emergency.

Why would I want this?

During an emergency, if your doors are locked, precious time is wasted forcing doors open. Your door key is placed inside this box for use by the Police and Fire Departments, but only during an emergency.

Are the lock boxes secure?

Only on-duty Police Officers and Fire Fighters/EMS will have access to the specialty key needed to access your lock box. The location of the box at your home is immediately available to emergency dispatchers who will securely relay the information to emergency responders.

Is this program available to anyone?

The residential lock box program is geared towards residents with medical issues, limited mobility, and other needs; however, any Streetsboro resident may participate. These lock boxes can only be placed at residences within our response area. The residential lock box is NOT available to businesses.

Completed residential lock box application with full payment can be mailed in, or dropped off at the fire station at 9184 State Route 43, weekdays between 9am & 3pm. Obtain your residential lock box application here: Application Residential Lock Box Effective 01 2023

Residential Smoke Detectors

Residential smoke detectors should be installed and maintained to help ensure the safety of all occupants. Smoke detectors operating on changeable batteries should be given a new set of batteries every 6 months. Smoke detectors with sealed long-life batteries should be replaced according to manufacturer specifications. It is recommended that all smoke detectors be replaced 10 years after the manufacture date, which can be located either on the back of the smoke detector, or inside the accessible part of the smoke detector.

If you live in a development served by a homeowner's association, or are in a rental unit, contact your maintenance provider first for smoke detector maintenance concerns. Under no circumstances can the Streetsboro Fire Department replace hardwired / interconnected smoke detectors with single station smoke detectors. This decreases the type of coverage and may put you at risk. Contact an electrician for assistance replacing hardwired / interconnected smoke detectors.

Contact the Streetsboro Fire station business line at 330-626-4664 during business hours with any questions or concerns about your smoke detectors.
